Bonnie’s Story
Receiving word that you have been laid off from your job can be crushing news to anyone… but can you imagine finding out you have breast cancer the very same week?? That’s where Bonnie Land’s story begins.
“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2015, the same week I had been laid off from the company where I worked for 25 years. I was lost and didn’t know where or who to turn to, it was a nightmare.
A University Hospital caseworker told me to contact WINGS, an organization who helps women with breast cancer but without health insurance. With their generosity and help, I have been able to receive quality healthcare to help me fight my cancer.
I recently found out my cancer returned. I’m so thankful WINGS has continued to make insurance available to me, otherwise I don’t know what I would have done. Everyone in their office has been so kind and helpful whenever I have had any questions, worries or concerns.
I have 3 beautiful granddaughters who are my whole world. I try to keep a positive attitude because I feel like I have to be a role model for them. They have been with me through everything and they help me to keep that positive attitude.”
Keep up the positive attitude Bonnie! WINGS is here to help you fight so you can focus on spending time with your beautiful family.
Help us fight with them! Every penny helps to ease the financial pressure that comes with breast cancer treatments. We do not want our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, wives, or friends in Central and South Texas to battle this disease alone.
